RESQUNIT- MSC Fisheries Standard v3.0

Fisheries aiming to attain the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification must undergo an evaluation process that scores them across three principal tiers within relevant focus areas. These tiers are:

Qualifying Level (SG60):
This represents the foundational benchmark that fisheries must meet as a minimum standard.

Best Practice (SG80):
This intermediate level signifies advanced adherence to MSC standards.

Excellence (SG100):
This pinnacle level reflects the utmost commitment to sustainability and is considered the gold standard.

Within the certification framework, there are five critical focus areas, including the management of ghost gear, which is essential for the health of marine ecosystems. By integrating a Resqunit—a device designed to reduce lost fishing gear—fisheries can elevate their score to achieve the Excellence level of SG100 across each of the five focus areas, thereby demonstrating exceptional sustainability practices and stewardship.

Any fishery that can install and utilize RESQUNIT devices on their fishing gear, and that by avoiding gear loss, will minimize In-scope species interactions will meet the excellence standard of SG100.
